CURRENT STOCK:  BIRCH and POPLAR

I like to carve almost every night after I finish work and before I go to bed.  It is a great way for me relax whilst keeping my skills honed and improving.

You may not have the time to axe out a spoon blank, don't have the wood available or if you aren't ready to have a go at using an axe we have you covered.

Our blanks come from the New England Tablelands of Australia and are made by Brackenbury Woodcraft.

* We will ship overseas however this is at your own risk as your country's customs may not allow it.

NB: when your greenwood blanks and billets arrive you will notice they are wrapped in repurposed plastic bags, this is to keep the moisture in.  Put it in your freezer until you are ready to carve.  This keeps the moisture trapped in the wood and putting in the freezer stops it from going mouldy.  When ready to carve you can carve it quite easily as it defrosts or pop it in the sink with room temperature water for a few minutes.

Being greenwood which has naturally occurring sugars in the sap etc and airborne funguses there is a chance that your blanks may arrive with some mould. Please don't stress about this as it can be rinsed off under the tap.  You can spray/pour some household vinegar on it if you really want to.  Now wrap it in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer until you are ready to carve.  Remember that you will be carving the outside off.   By placing an order for green wood items you are accepting that there may be some mould when it arrives.  This is a natural occurrence and not something that we have any control over.

You can keep your piece in the freezer in a plastic bag in between carving sessions until you have finished it and it is ready to dry.

If are having a break whilst carving pop it back in the bag.  Kuksas are notoriously fickle.  If having a break whilst carving it submerge it in water to stop it from cracking.  When you have finished carving your Kuksa place it in a paper bag with some of its own shavings  to slow down the drying process. Check it regularly to make sure it is not going mouldy.

Great service

Spoon blanks are exactly what you’d expect. Good shape and size and all you need is a knife to get carving. However, I can’t speak highly enough of the service and help I got from the Wood Tamer!

Traveled a long way and arrived in great condition.

These came to the United States in great condition - packaged very well. We put them in the refrigerator per Chris's recommendation, and they've been great to work with.
