Why SVA-170 Axe Jig?

Straight or curved edges that last
Outdoor axes and carving axes often feature a curved edge, while cleavers and carpenter's axes may have a nearly straight edge. The axe is secured to the rubber stop of the jig, allowing for easy tracing of the edge's shape, whether straight or curved.
For optimal results, it is important to use caution when dry grinding on a fast rotating bench grinder, as there is a possibility of burning the edge and damaging the axe. However, with the Tormek sharpening system, this risk is eliminated due to its low rpm rotation and continuous water cooling of the edge.
Set the sharpening angle by usage
Selecting the optimal sharpening angle for your axe will depend on its intended use. For versatile purposes and recreational activities, a larger edge angle is recommended compared to a carving axe. For heavy duty tasks like splitting, an even larger edge angle is required.
Sharpen your carving axes asymmetrically by creating a larger bevel on the left-hand side (right-handed users). This will improve cutting efficiency by aligning the cutting force with the direction of the cut.
No more hand cramps
As the grinding wheel rotates, the jig secures the axe against the rubber stop, increasing the force of your hand to achieve the perfect amount of pressure on the wheel. This also prevents the edge from damaging the wheel, a common issue when sharpening by hand.
