This knife even better than promised - sharp, easy to strip and sharpen, well designed and beautifully made.
I own a nice collection of knives by some great blade makers. I find myself consistently reaching for Peter’s brilliant hook knife first and most. The curve seems a perfect all arounder for almost any size and shape spoon bowl. It’s lovely to handle and look at. I have yet to do anything other than strop it which the blade loves. Buy one!
Absolutely loving my recent purchase of the Von Trott hook knife. My new go-to for finishing cuts. Wonderfully sharp and looking forward to the ease of re-sharpening. Highly recommended.
I am a reasonably experienced carver and own a decent set of high quality carving tools. This spoon knife by Pete Trott is an absolute beauty and a welcome addition to my 'toolbox'; the finish is excellent and the blackwood handle is ergonomic as well as aesthetically pleasing. I am very fond of 01 tool steel as it takes a very keen edge, responds very well to being put on the strop, and is easy to maintain. Add to this the tramrail blade design and you have a knife that can be kept razor sharp with relative ease. Most importantly for me I am partial to the relatively shallow sweep of this knife compared to other spoon knives i own. It does not have a pronounced belly but has rather a nice radius towards the tip, acute enough for the deeper sections of the bowl, and a flatter/shallower section that can be used almost like a dedicated finishing blade for the bowl. This is a quality tool through and through and it is clear to see that it has been forged by someone who is a master spooncarver in their own right.
I bought my knife direct from 'the man' at the lost trades fair. All I can say is that it is brilliant, it eats through the wood with ease and retains it's edge. I like the rail design as it makes for easy sharpening/ maintenance. Can't recommend it highly enough.
The maker is a top guy 🙏🙏🙏
