Product details

Hook knives also known as Spoon knives can be used to hollow out the bowl of spoons, cups, kuksas and bowls or any other project where you want to create a hollow.

This handmade hook knife has a moderate radius making it good for hollowing and finishing eating spoons, cooking spoons, ladles, bowls cups and more and is another good allrounder size.  It comes super sharp straight out of the box and holds its edge really well.

They are single beveled on one side only meaning that they are available as right handed or left handed.

We recommend only sharpening hook knives on the inside edge as you have a flat registration point to work with.  The outside of the blade has a convex surface from the tip to heel as well as from the edge to the spine which means that there is a complexity to could lead to headaches if you get it wrong.

Regular stropping however on the inside edge using a dowel with stropping compound and a stropping paddle for the outside edge is a great way to maintain a keen edge for  longer before you will even need to think about resharpening your hook knives.

This hook knife is betterer than mine!

And so it came to pass that I did a beginner spoon workshop at the Woodtamer
We were asked to bring our own tools if we had them ……..and I was able to do a direct comparison
This little knife rocks and after trying out a few other tools I’m now saving up for more !
Ps I made a cherry wood spoon at the workshop and it stirred its first cake last weekend 😊
