The Legless Mule™ is the Wood Tamer's spin on the traditional Spoon Mule.  As a teacher I didn't want to be storing multiple spoon mules and could not take multiple spoon mules to run workshops.  So I set out to find a solution and after several years of R&D I have come up with The Legless Mule™.  It takes up far less space than a traditional spoon mule, is much lighter and less cumbersome for transporting and can be set up just about anywhere you have a table and chair.

The Legless Mule™ can be secured to the table using clamps or as a more permanent set up by screwing it to the table/bench with the predrilled countersunk holes.

The paddles/jaws are operated pushing them out with your feet which causes them to clamp down on your piece and have been lined with 0.8mm Kangaroo Leather for extra grip.  Because the pins go through from the front of the mule we are able to have three different width options as well four height options which you can add to if you want with ease.

The Legless Mule™ comes with 2 risers that insert neatly at the back of the mule when not in use and one has a notch so that you can rest your drawknife into it when making height adjustments etc.  The risers can be used either side of the jaws together or individually to give you different configurations with your spoon/piece.  For example, it allows you to hold a spoon sideways with the bowl overhanging at the back or by using one riser at the front you gain a view and access to the bowl differently to if it is laying flat on the deck.

One of the risers comes with extra long stainless steel pins and leather on the underside.  The purpose of this is so that by using an F Clamp you can clamp a spoon down to hollow out the bowl with about 280° access around the spoon.

The paddles/jaws are set to work with a table height of 800mm. We advise that if your table height is lower than this that you can raise the height of mule by placing a block of wood underneath it.  The paddles can be cut to size if desired.  If you require longer paddles to suit your needs please let me know in the notes at the checkout.

The paddles will be shipped in 2 pieces that can be joined on arrival with the supplied screws.

The leather can be replaced with a thin foam by request if you are vegan or would just prefer that option.

Hand made in Australia and had it shipped to Minnesota. I can tell this is going to last me a lifetime and the hardwoods are gorgeous!

Valuable addition

The Legless Mule is a very useful addition to both my personal spoon carving and spoon carving workshops I regularly run. It's compact and doesn't take up valuable floor space in the workshop. Easy to set up at the workbench and easy to remove and store.
So far I've just used it for spoon carving so far and it is able to perform all operations my regular mule can.
Looking forward to putting the Legless Mule to work for other projects in the future.
