With the sad passing of Brian, Wood Tools UK have made the decision to discontinue this axe.  They are currently working on a premium quality axe completely made in Sheffield, England which we expect to see next year.

To fill this gap we have introduced a new entry priced carving axe of very high quality. You can check out more here

A razor sharp carving axe that is light enough that your arms don't tire with use but heavy enough to remove the wood efficiently. It also makes a great axe for splitting firewood, bushcraft or at the campsite.

This axe is one of the most affordable on the market and is perfect for carvers at all levels. The axe heads are drop forged abroad. Each is then hand ground and honed in Sheffield (see video below).

Hickory handles are made to JoJo's design in the UK. Each is roughened for grip and finished with linseed oil.

The weight of the head is 550g and the total weight around 720g, handle length is 31cm. The short handle is essential for speed as cutting strokes involve pivoting from the wrist.

The axe comes sharpened and ready for use with a leather sheath to protect it.

Due to the nature of the natural materials we use, handle colours & patterns will vary, as will sheath colours & textures.

1st ever carving axe

This is a great tool I love it
It is sharp light and looks great ( important in hand tools I think)
And great service from the Woodtamer who actually rang me up to see if I wanted to come and collect it rather than pay postage and wait- too risky if all his tools are as good as this 😊

Fine edge, finely created tool.

I have used this axe for 6 to 8 hours worth of work, green and seasoned wood alike! I have maintained the edge on diamond stones, water stones, and oil stones. This axe is one of the fines tools I own, and comes ready to work for several projects and methods of carving straight from the source.

Outstanding axe!!

Robin carving axe

Just received my axe, and straight out of the package, I’m impressed!! Pretty new to carving, been building guitars for years and wanted a change for a bit. This little axe is beautifully made, well balanced and razor sharp, can’t wait to start swinging it around. Thank you Chris, for the great service.

Wow that’s sharp!

New to using an Axe & Greenwood.
Super sharp & so glad I got the sheath. Already making spoons, knives & dough cutter! Having an absolute blast with it. I couldn’t imagine wielding a heavier one.
Beautiful quality.
Thanks Chris

Newbie

I'm new to spoon carving, or any other carving for that matter. I even have trouble cutting up my own dinner. Letting me loose with this baby is probably not a good idea, however it's too late now...
It arrived in good time, sheath and all, and exceedingly sharp. To prove a point, I did try to shave with it, and I now have two mouths. Because I'm not an accomplished wood carver yet, I like that this axe looks very "Game of Thrones" providing automatic cred and kudos. I suspect that after only a few uses my friends will be referring to me as "Lefty"...
